We have a family member of a patient who keeps pacing the halls in her flip-flops driving most of my co-workers crazy with the "flop-clickey" noise thing-a-ma-bob.
I didn't really notice... it doesn't bother me at all.
(Maybe it is a female thing. All five who complained are women.)

I'm a woman - I wore flip flops to work -- because they are easy to take off under my desk. I tend to walk kind of funny though to keep the "flip flop" noise down when I'm walking around inside.

Reply:I think that flip flops were the best invention EVER.. I have around 35 pair of them (reef brand). I wear them every single day even in the winter.. I wear them to wedding, funerals, church, work and everywhere else.. I LOVE THEM
Reply:Some people don't know how to wear flipflops and walk in them without them "flopping." It's an art to it, lol, you have to know how to keep your feet stuck to the inside of the shoe so doesn't click and when you walk and let each foot down, you step lightly so it doesn't flop against the floor so hard and wake the dead. I don't think flipflops, sandals and house slippers were made for everyone, especially people with heavy feet and those who walk hard. It is an annoying sound, my mom walks like that and when you say something to her, she gets bothered like she's doing nothing wrong but it's annoying. I saw a lady in a driver's license bureau come in one day and was dragging her feet with sandals on and it made the "flip-flop" noise all the way to the receptionist desk and everyone in there was looking at her wishing she would pick her feet up. A kid though it was funny so on her way out, every time she stepped, he yelled, "Flip Flop, Flip Flop!" Everyone was glad someone brought it to her attention and she was leaving so we didn't have to hear it anymore.

Should you wear flip flops while showering while living in an apartment?
People wear flip flops to protect their feet in dorm showers, but do you do it in an apartment as well if you're sharing the bathroom with two other people?

With only two other people, it's probably no problem at all. You don't really need them.
For the last three years, I've been sharing a dorm bathroom (2 showers) with at least 28 other girls, last year there were 33 girls on my floor, and I have never worn flip flops in a shower. Personally, I HATE wearing flip flops to shower, it's just irritating. But you know what? As paranoid as many people are about using shared showers, and as convinced as they are about infections, I have NEVER had a problem with any kind of infection what so ever. None. And neither has any one else I know. Athletes foot and stuff do NOT pass on that easily. And even if it did, then wouldn't the water falling on the floor cause it to just splash up over top of the flip flops anyway?
Do the three of you have the apartment all to yourself? Or is it in some kind of dorm building where the cleaning staff can get in to clean it? In my dorm, the cleaning lady cleans it almost every day. If it's up to you guys to keep it clean, then just take turns cleaning it every couple days or something. It'll take like, 5 mins to squirt some Tilex on there and wipe it down with a paper towel or sponge.
When you really think about it, there's nothing but soap and hot water running over the floor part every shower, so it's probably one of the cleanest places in the dorm... As long as you have a decent enough immune system anyway. Mold and mildew can still build up around the tiles, especially on the upper walls and ceiling, but it's usually harmless in small amounts. Just clean it every once in a while.
Don't worry about it. The biggest problem with living in a dorm or apartment is that you WILL get sick. Colds and flus spread like wildfire in dorms. Your body builds up antibodies against germs and bacterias every day, but suddenly being surrounded by germs and bacteria from multiple other people, your body can't fight them off fast enough. Bring tons of suddafed, benadryl, cough syrup, and tissues. You'll need them sooner or later. I get sick at least twice a semester. But never had a problem with the showers lol.
Reply:Well if you were alone I would say just be sure to clean it often. But since there are other people you may want to wear them.. but not just any flipflops.. buy a nice cheap pair that is just for this use.. and clean them off too. Just don't miss cleaning your feet while you're showering!
Reply:If your water supply is chlorinated and you dry your feet off after showering, there is nearly zero chance of you catching anything from your roomates, even if they have athlete's foot so bad their feet are rotting off.
Relax! Just don't wear their shoes or their un-washed socks.

I went to Saudi to be able to wear good shoes.
And without the nails. But now my shoes are worn out again, and I just don't care. Just as long as there are no nails.
If flip-flops it is, then I'll wear em, too - just as long as they have no nails.

I find them a lot more comfortable than rubber shoes because they don't constrain my feet. I like to let my toes out every once in a while, especially after a good pedicure. Besides, it's a lot more practical during rainy seasons. Because while rubber shoes go *squish* after it gets wet, I could just wipe off my flip flops and be on the go again. :D

Dress Pants with Flip Flops Part 2.?
I posted a question here about wearing flip flops with gray and black dress pants. I now have some pictures for you guys to look at and tell me if they look silly. They are the last two pictures on this website. Other pictures are other shoes. Please let me know how they look. Thank you.

I put them in a pillow sack, tie the top with a twisty or string and wash them on the gentle cycle of the washing machine; then set them outside to dry. You might not want to do that with good leather shoes, but I've done sneakers, flip flops and stuff like that.

I can't help but wonder if you're one of those guys that wears shorts and sneakers.
I sometimes think that sneakers and running shoes aren't proper attire away from the gym or outside of designated physical activity. I also think that shorts are tacky away from the beach and pool. It goes the same way you think of flip flops. It's just the way it is.

Flip-flops have been known to be inspired by the traditional Japanese shoe with wooden soles. I don't think the Japanese tradition is exactly "out of a job". And as far as the "jelly shoes" are concerned, or Crocs, as people that know what they're talking about would call them, Hanson, Seamans, and Boedecker have "came up" with the Crocs sandals which have sold out immediately when they have been first introduced in the summer of 2002. Since then, the company has made millions and millions of dollars off of the "stupid coloured jelly shoes." I doubt that they would be banned any time soon.

Since when did flip flops become professional attire for young girls?
We're hosting a group of 'young professionals'. The men are in suits. The women are in dresses. The men are wearing shoes. 1/2 the women are wearing heels or flats. 1/2 are wearing flip flops.

I would try those on at the store (jeans). The main problem is the inseam on those pants is probably way too long and you will have to get them hemmed which will take alot of the flare off, which is kinda the point. I don't think citizens have petite sizes but I know paige and seven for all mankinds do (I think) but you'll have to check up on that.
As far as the flip flops I like them but I think they would be cuter with capris or a jean skirt so you could actually see part of the design around your foot. Otherwise it just looks like a dark blue flip flop, nothing too special. If they had one in a coral or another bright, spring color like that I think that would be very cute.
Also, about the jeans, alot of people have those particular pair in that wash. Maybe try a different wash that comes with more unique back pocket designs. I remember I saw a pair I adored that was a very dark wash (called Alcatraz) and it had red stitching for the back pockets they were very cute and fit wonderfully in the flare cut (AKA Ingrid cut). I think the back pocket was a different color for the Kelly bootcut.
You should pair them with a cute, bright colored flowy shirt, a casual t-shirt, or a fun tank top (like this last one I thought was super cute)

I would try those on at the store (jeans). The main problem is the inseam on those pants is probably way too long and you will have to get them hemmed which will take alot of the flare off, which is kinda the point. I don't think citizens have petite sizes but I know paige and seven for all mankinds do (I think) but you'll have to check up on that.
As far as the flip flops I like them but I think they would be cuter with capris or a jean skirt so you could actually see part of the design around your foot. Otherwise it just looks like a dark blue flip flop, nothing too special. If they had one in a coral or another bright, spring color like that I think that would be very cute.
Also, about the jeans, alot of people have those particular pair in that wash. Maybe try a different wash that comes with more unique back pocket designs. I remember I saw a pair I adored that was a very dark wash (called Alcatraz) and it had red stitching for the back pockets they were very cute and fit wonderfully in the flare cut (AKA Ingrid cut). I think the back pocket was a different color for the Kelly bootcut.
You should pair them with a cute, bright colored flowy shirt, a casual t-shirt, or a fun tank top (like this last one I thought was super cute)

I put them in a pillow sack, tie the top with a twisty or string and wash them on the gentle cycle of the washing machine; then set them outside to dry. You might not want to do that with good leather shoes, but I've done sneakers, flip flops and stuff like that.

they said they improved them, i havent tried the new ones, i bought a bunch last year when they were a dollar... they have pretty patterns though too

One of his nurses showed me a pair she had that had a gel part on the heel of the shoe for extra comfort and the rest of the sole was very soft! I found a pair very similar to hers and they are wonderful!! If you know what to look for, you will find it!

I advise alternating flip flops with sandals, tennis shoes, espadrilles, and slip ons. Barefoot, at home or on the beach is good, too.

Looking for "Reef" flip flops/sandals in Vancouver, BC?
I bought a pair of these Reef flip flops at a sm town specialty store a couple o yrs ago, and they are the comfyest sandals I've ever worn. The store closed down, now I'm not sure where I might beable to find these sandals again. Has anyone seen these in Vancouver, BC? or can suggest a chain store I might find them in?
I did find them online, but if I can just go buy them in BC, I would prefer that.

How do I stop my leather flip flops from squeaking when I walk?
I have new leather flip flops that make a noise when my foot slips in them while walking. I've tried the traditional lotion trick, and no luck. Can't really use baby powder in them since they are flip flops. They are a rather heavy shoe (Reef Sandy). I think it's too late to return them, so any suggestions? Thanks!

I feel your pain...I felt the same for years then I found that if they hurt, it's probably because the piece that goes between your toes is too big (or if plastic it might have a weird edge cut out), try flip flops with a cloth piece in between or a smaller piece...don't do plastic (try leather); They shouldn't hurt when you try them on. if the size is perfect for your feet, then they shouldn't fall off either (I experienced it with a bigger size flip flop),and you can walk them better than slippers; don't give up on them, when you do find the right pair, you will love them..I promise!

Dan, I can't say anything about cold weather since I live in Florida... so I'll just say it's a comfort thing for me.
Since I live in a place where the temperature during the summer reaches well into the mid-90s on a daily basis (with high humidity), there is no fall and winter is classified by "I was able to wear jeans on Christmas," wearing socks and sneakers is simply an uncomfortable way of going on with life. I may not like the look of flip flops, but I buy nice Nike ones and they are so comfortable for the long walks I take with my son.
As far as foot fetishes go, it grosses me out... but not enough to make me switch to sneakers in 93 degree weather. My philosophy is: as long as I don't know, I don't care. You go ahead and have a foot fetish all you want, I don't want to know about it.

It seems like it has become "in" to wear flip flops all the time, especially girls. Why is this? Flip flops should be for the beachl, pool, and at home. There were some girls at my high school ggraduation who wore them! I mean, wtf!?

How can i stop my new flip flops from giving me blisters!?
In between my big toe, and the toe next to it, i have huge painfull blisters, and i only wore my flip flops for about an hour yesterday after i bought them!
There are lovely roxy flip flops, and i really want to wear them, but i cant walk in them because the blisters are so painful!!

Reply:Try putting vaseline on the flip flop to soften it (if it's material). Wear plasters on your toes get some clear ones and hope that you soon break in the flip flops!

How can I fix my squeaky flip flops?
I got a pair of Nike Celso flip flops during the summer last year. Since winter came I haven't worn them in a while. So I recently started wearing them again and they have been squeaking a lot. Is there something to help it stop from squeaking?

Is it ok to walk in flip flops?
When i walk the dog i am usually wearing flip flops. Is that ok. Most of the time it is just in my neighbor hood but on Fridays my friend and I walk the dogs at the beach. We have a loop (sidewalk) that is about 2.45 miles and we usually go .5 mile then go let the dogs play in the water for a minute then walk the .5 mile back to our car.
Is it ok for me to do this with flip flops on or could this hurt my feet or legs or soemthing?

I would suggest walking barefoot. You tend to curl your toes ( subconciously ) to keep the flip flop on your feet and this is what causes problems walking any distance in them. You can also get a good Cross Trainer shoe or what has become known as a " walking " shoe. These help support the foot, heel and the arch when you walk.

My ex-husband was traveling to Europe a couple years back. It was summer, so he naturally had his flips with him. I guess it was a gay-pride parade/festival in Berlin at the time, and he was with a guy from work (also wearing flip-flops). Apparently, in Europe, at the time anyway, this was a very gay way to dress. He and his colleague were hit on by a few gay locals in Berlin. He noticed that only the gay guys were wearing the flip flops. He didn't care, he still wore them and all, but it was interesting that the flip-flop shoes were so NOT normal for straight guys in Europe. That was some years ago, maybe things have changed since...whatever the case....it's just a shoe, right? I'd rather see a flip flop than a man with dock siders and no socks any day!!
