No dress code = Flip-Flops?

I work at a shoe store and there is NO DRESS code. All the other girls that work with me wear tanks, flip-flops, and even ripped jeans. EVEN MY MANAGER!





I didn't know what to expect so I dressed up for my first day so while I was in my dress pants and heels they were in their ripped jeans. I feel SUPER uncomfortable wearing what they consider “casual” so I’m trying to keep it casual but not trashy.





I need some pointers on how to dress up jeans.

No dress code = Flip-Flops?
simple! get jeans with a pair of flats! flats can be casual so just get a basic pair of them. [i own a pair of silver steve madden ones, a leopard steve madden, and black nine west] and then wear a plain shirt with a pretty necklace.

Reply:Since you have a higher standard on what you would like to wear, but it does not go with what your fellow employees wear, mix it up. You can wear nice sneakers, a polo or a nice shirt with jeans (dark washes look classier). You can look classy and fit in at the same time. Have fun!

Reply:Obviously, you have class and they don't! Do not lower yourself to their level! Respect yourself and be the professional, you will go much further in life. Years from now when you're at a much higher level and they're still working in the store, you'll Thank me.!
Reply:You can wear denim with flats. Flip flops or open toe shoes are not appropriate because most accidents happen with those type of shoes. OSHA does not recommed that those shoes are worn in the work place. Jeans, tunics, polos, and crop jackets are a few suggestions.

Reply:I think your job isn't as professional as you may think it is.I mean, flip flops to work....even the manager? What kind of shoes do you guys sell? If it's an all flip flop "Reef" kind of store then yeah, I can understand but if you sell tennis shoes and dressy shoes then you guys should promote that.....not summer attire.... that is unprofessional. I would have felt weird too girl. You probably made the other girls feel under dressed....especially the manager. But you know what....I'm sure it gets tiring walking around and what not....that is understandable, but some cute ballerina flats would be appropriate and comfortable too. Besides, what if a box falls on their feet and someone gets hurt......major lawsuit....be careful....lead by example....don't let your guard down and if you do give in and wear flip flops.....make sure you get a cute pedicure first ;). Have a good one!








Wear some cute jeans...(not destroyed denim) and dress them up with some cute comfy shoes, perhaps some cute ballerina shoes and a cute top.....dress it up but not too much. Remember you want to look presentable and comfortable at the same time.

Reply:hmmm....I think that you can wear a good pair of jeans with your heels. I think closed toe heels would look better with jeans. Try wearing light colored button-down shirts. Shirts that they have at Old Navy are considered to be casual (and comfortable). Hope this helps.

-paint your nails a fun color!


-wear a pretty necklace


-always wear nice shoes


-put on a nicer shirt to make the jeans look dressier


-put on lip gloss and eyeshadow

Reply:buy a pair of dark wash jeans that are slightly flared (they are classier and they look good on every figure) and dress them up with heels since it is almost summer go with open toed heels and then wear a top that's semi-casual i luv the tops at this store http://www.gojane.com/ then add some cute accessories like layered necklaces and cute wooden bangles there ya go...fabulous!
Reply:Wear what you like and are comfortable in even if it seems "dressy" to them, and walk with your head high. I like to put cut and colorful patches like dragonflies or butterflies on my jeans and on my little sporty jackets. It adds some attitude and fun while keeping it classy. Oh, and always wear nice shoes, even if they are flip flops - keep them new, because even a pair of flip flops can be classy if properly coordinated. One of the first things I do every spring is go by five new pair, that way they always look new, and they are cheap. Flats and flat sandals look great with jeans too.
