Since when did flip flops become professional attire for young girls?

We're hosting a group of 'young professionals'. The men are in suits. The women are in dresses. The men are wearing shoes. 1/2 the women are wearing heels or flats. 1/2 are wearing flip flops.

Since when did flip flops become professional attire for young girls?
I dont know...it drives me nuts when I come into work and all the girls are wearing flip flops.

Reply:because they are working in a kiosk in the mall and they do not want to be overdressed and they want to appeal to the younger clientele and flip flops come in name brands and don't all cost $2.00 any more

Reply:In places I worked where flipflops were not allowed,people wore closed shoes and kicked them off at their desk.People hate wearing shoes.It doesn't make you better or worse just because you don't want your feet all confined.
Reply:Well,since I live in the Caribbean,flip flops are famous over here...but Ive never seen anyone in flip flops when wearing professional/formal clothes,and I'm in the Caribbean!


That to me is so wrong,and so unprofessional..


Don't they know that behavior,clothing,speech,etc are all part of showing how professional you are?

Our dress code is Business Casual - but I agree when did flip flops become appropriate business attire

Reply:I hate to admit it, but I do the same thing. I wear flip flops to everything! In your case, it kinda depends on what kind of flip flop they were wearing. There are actually some very nice ones that have beads on them that would make them more dressy.

Simply don't hire or network the offending young professionals. They'll get the message soon enough. I just read an article in the paper that said there's a rush to get tattoos removed. People are finding out if they want to work someplace other than Starbucks they need to lose the tats.

I dunno about business atire but I see 90% of girls wearing flip flops casually.





I don't like them but they look good on some girls.
Reply:people shouldn't wear flip-flops to work...but high heels damage your feet too. If you look at pictures of Chinese women who have had their feet bound and women who have been wearing high heels, the same basic things happens to the feet. Just thought I would share that tid-bit. But it's unprofessional to wear flip-flops. Parents need to teach their kids what to wear in certain occasions (and it starts young...how many little kids do you see wearing odd combinations of clothes because the parents were too lazy to teach them otherwise?
Reply:There will always be those clueless wonders who have no taste! Some might whine that they have nothing else (and how far is the nearest shoe store?), others are rebels who refuse to conform to the norm, the rest honestly have no idea that it's inappropriate! "Since half the girls are wearing them, it must be okay!" Maybe you should be hosting a workshop on proper attire for young professionals! Emphasize nylons and real shoes!
